We created a custom Lego basketball sculpture that stood approx. 5 feet tall. It was designed to be used at the half-time show. The idea was a prop. for Kenny Dobbs to jump over after grabbing the ball and dunking it. As you can see by the picture on the left that it was a success.

The Building Process
It didn’t take long to figure out that without an internal support that this sculpture was not going to stand on its own. After building the entire legs I quickly realized the ankle was the weakest part so it needed to be completely rebuilt from the ground up with an internal support structure. The wood structure was sufficient for this project but looking back now I would recommend creating the structure out of light weight metal reinforced type structure. The question I get often is “Why didn’t you just glue it together?”. Actually gluing would take a lot longer and actually not as durable as you might think.
